The reflection of the evening’s pink sky glimmered on the rippling water of the lake as 2,023 purple carnations floated about.
Echo Hutson, domestic violence chief at the District Attorney’s Office, explained to dozens of attendees convened at the southern end of the park that the carnations represented bravery, strength and safety. Signaling to the county’s first responders, members of the court system, victim advocates and elected officials present, Hutson offered a warning to perpetrators of domestic abuse.
“We will not hesitate to hold you accountable for hurting those who you should love the most,” Hutson said. “We will remain brave, we will remain strong and we will keep those victims safe.”
We are incredibly honored that so many came out to the 4th Annual FLOWERS ON THE LAKE Community Awareness Event.
The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office & The Montgomery County Veterans Memorial Commission host this amazing event, ever October, in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Each year we invite the community to stand with us in a unified voice to show our support for victims/ survivors of domestic violence.
