What Were You Wearing? — A Powerful Display to Challenge Harmful Myths 💙
Join us this April as we come together to honor survivors, uplift their voices, and challenge the harmful narratives surrounding sexual assault.
On April 20th from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM, the Montgomery County Women’s Center will host a moving exhibit titled “What Were You Wearing?” in front of the Montgomery County Courthouse.
💬 About the Exhibit
Survivors of sexual assault are far too often met with the question:
“What were you wearing?”
This exhibit exists to challenge that question—and the damaging assumption behind it.
Through clothing displays and personal stories shared by survivors, “What Were You Wearing?” powerfully illustrates a truth we must all understand:
Sexual assault is never caused by what someone wears.
This display is designed to confront victim-blaming, educate our community, and create space for empathy, understanding, and change.
🌿 Honoring Survivors
In recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, this exhibit also lends a voice to the 873 survivors our advocates have accompanied to forensic exams in 2025. Each number represents a person who showed incredible courage—and an advocate who stood beside them every step of the way.
Our advocates serve as both a lifeline and a source of hope, providing support during one of the most difficult moments a survivor may face.
