SUMMARY:"In Bloom" Community Garden Display
DESCRIPTION:Planting Hope: A Community Garden for Survivors 🌱 \n“Planting a garden of any sort symbolizes hope. Hope in tomorrow—and hope that something beautiful is about to happen.” \nThis April\, in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month\, we invite our community to come together in a powerful\, visible act of support\, remembrance\, and hope. \nAt Something Special Resale\, we are creating more than just a display—we are cultivating a Community Garden of Hope. Each flower placed represents strength\, resilience\, and the voices of survivors who deserve to be seen\, heard\, and supported. \nIn 2025 alone\, our advocates stood beside 873 sexual assault survivors during forensic exams. That number is not just a statistic—it represents real people\, real stories\, and unimaginable courage in the face of trauma. This garden is for them. \n🌼 How You Can Participate:Throughout the month of April\, you can purchase a flower in-store and add it to our growing garden display. Each flower is a symbol of solidarity—a quiet but powerful way to say: you are not alone. \n🎗️ As a small token of appreciation\, every participant will receive a free teal ribbon\, the recognized color of sexual assault awareness\, to wear and share your support. \n📍 Event Details:April 1st – April 30thSomething Special Resale19073 I-45 #180\, Shenandoah \nThis garden will grow day by day—just like hope. And with each flower added\, we are reminded that healing is possible\, that community matters\, and that together\, we can create something beautiful out of even the hardest truths. \nJoin us. Stand with survivors. Help us plant hope. 🌷

SUMMARY:What Were You Wearing? — A Courthouse Display
DESCRIPTION:What Were You Wearing? — A Powerful Display to Challenge Harmful Myths 💙 \nJoin us this April as we come together to honor survivors\, uplift their voices\, and challenge the harmful narratives surrounding sexual assault. \nOn April 20th from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM\, the Montgomery County Women’s Center will host a moving exhibit titled “What Were You Wearing?” in front of the Montgomery County Courthouse. \n\n💬 About the Exhibit\nSurvivors of sexual assault are far too often met with the question:“What were you wearing?” \nThis exhibit exists to challenge that question—and the damaging assumption behind it. \nThrough clothing displays and personal stories shared by survivors\, “What Were You Wearing?” powerfully illustrates a truth we must all understand:Sexual assault is never caused by what someone wears. \nThis display is designed to confront victim-blaming\, educate our community\, and create space for empathy\, understanding\, and change. \n\n🌿 Honoring Survivors\nIn recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month\, this exhibit also lends a voice to the 873 survivors our advocates have accompanied to forensic exams in 2025. Each number represents a person who showed incredible courage—and an advocate who stood beside them every step of the way. \nOur advocates serve as both a lifeline and a source of hope\, providing support during one of the most difficult moments a survivor may face. \n\n🤝 Join Us\n\nMeet our outreach team and dedicated advocates\nLearn more about the services available to survivors\nEngage in meaningful conversation and awareness\nPurchase or pick up shirts and merchandise in support of the cause\n\n\nThis event is more than an exhibit—it’s a call to shift perspectives\, to listen without judgment\, and to stand with survivors in a way that is visible\, compassionate\, and unwavering. \nJoin us. Learn with us. Stand with survivors. 💙

SUMMARY:Elder Abuse Awareness Month
DESCRIPTION:Elder abuse is a largely hidden and growing problem in the United States. It is defined by law as “an act or omission\, which results in a serious physical or emotional injury to an elderly person or financial exploitation of an elderly person; or the failure\, inability or resistance of an elderly person to provide for himself or herself one or more of the necessities essential for physical and emotional well-being without which the elderly person would be unable to safely remain in the community.”  Elder abuse can include physical\, sexual\, emotional\, neglect\, and financial exploitation. Another form of elder abuse is self-neglect. Every June\, advocates join together across the country for a national effort to raise awareness during Elder Abuse Awareness Month. This annual\, month-long push focuses on advocacy and education on how to recognize the signs of elder abuse and support those who may be experiencing it.
