SUMMARY:Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month
DESCRIPTION:Dating violence is more common than people think\, especially among teens and young adults: one in three teens in the US will experience physical\, sexual\, or emotional abuse from someone they’re in a relationship with before they graduate high school\, and nearly half (43%) of college women report experiencing violent or abusive dating behaviors. Every February\, young people and their loved ones join together across the country for a national effort to raise awareness about the issue of teen dating violence through Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month (TDVAM). This annual\, month-long push focuses on advocacy and education to stop dating abuse before it starts.

SUMMARY:Sexual Assault Victim Donation Drive
DESCRIPTION:Montgomery County Women’s Center advocates responded 515 sexual assault exams in 2024.\n\nIf you or your organization are interested in donating bras & underwear for our Sexual Assault Advocacy Program they can be dropped off or mail to:\nMontgomery County Women’s Center: 1401 Airport Rd\, Conroe TX 77301 (Attn: Siomara)\n\n………………………………………………………………………………………………………………\n\nHeartbreaking but REAL & RAW account from a forensic nurse.\n\nThis is the underwear that no woman wants to wear.\nAnd it’s not just because it’s a plain cotton sports bra the color of Pepto-Bismol.\nIt’s because this is the underwear we give to survivors of rape and sexual assault after we take their own underwear as evidence.\nWe take their nice underwear\, their favorite underwear\, their cute underwear\, their comfy underwear\, their best-fitting bra\, their 75-dollar designer bra\, their weekend bra\, their work bra. And we take it away from them while wearing gloves\, and drop it into a paper bag\, and seal it with evidence tape and write their police case number on the outside\, and send it to the state crime lab\, and they never see it again.\nAnd we give them some Fruit from the Loom to wear home\, back to a life and a world they no longer recognize and no longer trust.\nBut here’s the kicker: That boring sports bra is WAY way WAY better than what some survivors get when they’re discharged.\nSome women have ALL of their clothes taken for evidence. Shirt. Undershirt. Pants. Bra. Underwear. Even their socks. And if the local forensic/sexual assault program that cares for them doesn’t have — or won’t buy — or can’t buy — clothes for them\, they get discharged in hospital scrubs.\nAnd grippy hospital socks.\nAnd postpartum white-mesh hospital underwear.\nAnd no bra.\nEver seen a woman who’s just been raped\, just had a three-hour forensic exam\, just had every surface of her battered body swabbed and photographed and inventoried for the police\, ever seen her walk out of a hospital wearing oversized hospital scrubs ——and her arms wrapped tightly around her chest\, ashamed\, because she doesn’t have a bra to wear?\nI have.\nAnd I absolutely refuse to ever see it again.\nThis is $150 of underwear from Kohl’s. My team and I buy this underwear ourselves for our patients\, because we are no longer willing to let any of our survivors go home without a bra\, or without a decent pair of underwear.\nIf you are looking for a place to donate something meaningful this holiday season\, reach out to your local Forensic Nursing team\, rape crisis center\, or domestic violence shelter.\nGo to Wal-Mart\, or Kohl’s\, or Target\, and buy clothes you’d feel comfortable in curled up\, safe at home\, watching TV. And donate them.\nNew underwear\, a comfortable bra\, a comfortable pair of pants\, a soft hoody\, squishy socks — all of these things can help make a woman who has survived a violent rape feel like a person again.\nA person.\nNot a victim.\nBecause it’s a long walk down that hallway\, out of the hospital\, and back into the world.\nAt least she can be comfortable as she takes each step.

SUMMARY:"In Bloom" Community Garden Display
DESCRIPTION:Planting Hope: A Community Garden for Survivors 🌱 \n“Planting a garden of any sort symbolizes hope. Hope in tomorrow—and hope that something beautiful is about to happen.” \nThis April\, in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month\, we invite our community to come together in a powerful\, visible act of support\, remembrance\, and hope. \nAt Something Special Resale\, we are creating more than just a display—we are cultivating a Community Garden of Hope. Each flower placed represents strength\, resilience\, and the voices of survivors who deserve to be seen\, heard\, and supported. \nIn 2025 alone\, our advocates stood beside 873 sexual assault survivors during forensic exams. That number is not just a statistic—it represents real people\, real stories\, and unimaginable courage in the face of trauma. This garden is for them. \n🌼 How You Can Participate:Throughout the month of April\, you can purchase a flower in-store and add it to our growing garden display. Each flower is a symbol of solidarity—a quiet but powerful way to say: you are not alone. \n🎗️ As a small token of appreciation\, every participant will receive a free teal ribbon\, the recognized color of sexual assault awareness\, to wear and share your support. \n📍 Event Details:April 1st – April 30thSomething Special Resale19073 I-45 #180\, Shenandoah \nThis garden will grow day by day—just like hope. And with each flower added\, we are reminded that healing is possible\, that community matters\, and that together\, we can create something beautiful out of even the hardest truths. \nJoin us. Stand with survivors. Help us plant hope. 🌷

SUMMARY:Elder Abuse Awareness Month
DESCRIPTION:Elder abuse is a largely hidden and growing problem in the United States. It is defined by law as “an act or omission\, which results in a serious physical or emotional injury to an elderly person or financial exploitation of an elderly person; or the failure\, inability or resistance of an elderly person to provide for himself or herself one or more of the necessities essential for physical and emotional well-being without which the elderly person would be unable to safely remain in the community.”  Elder abuse can include physical\, sexual\, emotional\, neglect\, and financial exploitation. Another form of elder abuse is self-neglect. Every June\, advocates join together across the country for a national effort to raise awareness during Elder Abuse Awareness Month. This annual\, month-long push focuses on advocacy and education on how to recognize the signs of elder abuse and support those who may be experiencing it.
