DESCRIPTION:This month we are collecting flip flops (and other shoes) for our emergency shelter and sexual assault programs. \nShoe drives are a great\, easy way to help us provide those in need with new shoes in order to propel them into a better life. Cleaning out your closets and donating gently-used or new shoes is an easy\, convenient way to help those in need. \n\n\n\n\nThe benefits of hosting/ participating in our shoe drive extend far beyond your doorstep\, because you’ll also help the environment! By hosting a shoe drive\, you help create a sustainable program to recycle athletic shoes which will go to those in our emergency shelter\, transitional housing and counseling programs. Additionally they go to our resale store so people can access quality footwear at affordable prices. Just give us a call to schedule your pickup today (936) 441-4044 ext53!! \nSTEP IT UP by getting together with friends\, family and neighbors and organize a group cleanout/ donation. \n  \nWe utilize donations in many ways… all of which benefit victims/survivors in our community. \n\nShelter residents and their children receive shoes and clothing since these items are generally left behind when fleeing.\nVictims/Survivors from our community are able to come shop at the resale shop with vouchers for clothing\, furniture and other necessities.\nTransitional housing apartments are completely furnished with donated furniture and housewares for new residents.\nShelter residents receive furniture and household items when re-building their homes and lives.\nRevenue from the store helps keep the shelter open.\n\n  \nCOME VISIT US AT SOMETHING SPECIAL (Shopping & Donation Hours and Location) \nMonday – Saturday 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. \n19073 I-45 South (in the Portofino Plaza next to Sam’s Club)

SUMMARY:Pajamas Donation Drive
DESCRIPTION:Every year thousands of children are forced to flee and live at a shelter to escape domestic violence. This disruption of home life can lead to a lonely experience\, especially at nighttime\, and something as simple as a pair of pajamas can help make bedtime a little more comforting for these women and children. \nOur emergency shelter accepts multiple victims and children every day. These victims often flee with only the clothes on their back. Our organization provides each person with the basics that they need to make it through each day. This month we are collecting pajamas for the women\, men\, boys and girls who enter our shelter. Pajamas can be new or gently used. SUMMARY:BACK TO SCHOOL Donation Drive
DESCRIPTION:When a survivor of domestic violence comes to the shelter\, it’s because her life is in danger. Often because of circumstances that are beyond her control\, she and her children walk through our doors with very few personal belongings. During their stay here\, we provide all the essentials she and her children need until she can provide these items for herself and her family. Those essentials include backpacks and school supplies. This month we have a donation drive underway to collect enough of them to meet the needs of children at the shelter and those served by our transitional housing\, counseling and legal programs.\n\nImagine being in a domestic violence shelter\, not knowing when things are going to get back to normal and you need to go back to school. Help children and teens impacted by domestic violence return to school prepared and equipped to learn by donating to our Back-to-School Supply Drive.\n\n\nYour donation will help provide school supplies\, suitable clothing\, gas cards to assist with transportation and most of all the reassurance that even today\, a fresh start can lead to success for the children of domestic violence survivors.\n\n\nThere are three ways you can help:1. DESCRIPTION:  \nMCWC has proudly served Montgomery County and its surrounding communities for more than 40 years. We specialize in providing survivors a complete continuum of services and empowering them as they courageously embark on their healing journeys. \nThis popular event is the MCWC’s largest annual fundraiser. The elegant event features a silent auction of new or gently-loved handbags along with other designer items. The event meant to raise awareness about the agency and the impact it’s services has on the lives of victims also features an inspirational speaker who shares a testimonial about surviving domestic and/or sexual abuse. \nOur Event Chair\, Ally Seder\, explaining her WHY. \nBefore I joined the board\, I wanted to learn more about the organization so I asked if I could tour the shelter. I was really impressed\,” Seder said of the center. She hadn’t expected it to be an uplifting place filled with hope. One of the stops on the tour was the center’s store\, where shelter residents and their children can receive new clothes and shoes — things that they may have left behind when fleeing a dangerous situation. \nWhen I thought about that\, I clutched my purse. I couldn’t imagine leaving (like that). From that\, an idea was born. We started collecting handbags and having new ones donated to begin the event and to raise money for the center. By opening our hearts and supporting Open Your Purse for Change\, together we are helping the Women’s Center continue to be a literal lifeline to victims of domestic violence. \nWe are thrilled to be hosting Open Your Purse for the 12th year. \nWe encourage ladies in the community to go in their closets and see if they donate one or more of their fabulous purses to our auction. Table purchases\, sponsorships\, and tickets will be available soon. The ripples carry more than petals; they carry our community’s promise to stand with survivors and to remember those who are no longer with us. \nOne survivor shared: \n\n“I remember standing on the shore last year\, clutching a flower in my hand. For the first time in a long time\, I felt seen. I wasn’t just a statistic. I was part of a community that cared.” \n\nThat’s the power of this night. It’s a moment for us—as partners\, advocates\, and neighbors—to show up\, to listen\, and to renew our vow: no one faces this alone. \nWe would be honored if you would join us—and bring a friend\, a colleague\, or someone who needs to witness this moment of unity. \n\n🌸 2\,025 Flowers. 2\,025 Stories. 💜 \nEvery flower released at Flowers on the Lake represents a story.
