SUMMARY:CoffeeTalk LIVE on Facebook: Pets & Domestic Violence A Barrier to Leaving
DESCRIPTION:Join us every Monday Morning LIVE on Facebook in October we discuss a new topic in Honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month! \nJOIN US on Facebook HERE: https://www.facebook.com/mcwctx \nResearch shows abusers often have a pattern of violence towards all members of the household – including children and pets. When domestic violence survivors seek to flee their abusers\, many are faced with the challenge of finding shelter for themselves\, their children\, and their pets. Many shelters do not have the means to house companion animals. Sadly\, many survivors stay in abusive homes for fear that the abuse of their animals will escalate if they’re left behind\, or that threats to their animals will be used to compel them to go back. \n  \nOther topics this month include: \n\nOctober 14th- Myths vs. Facts\nOctober 21- TCFV Report 2023\nOctober 28th- TCFV Report 2023 -Spanish

SUMMARY:CoffeeTalk LIVE on Facebook: Challenging the Myths of Domestic Violence
DESCRIPTION:Join us every Monday Morning LIVE on Facebook in October we discuss a new topic in Honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month! \nJOIN US on Facebook HERE: https://www.facebook.com/mcwctx \nChallenging the Myths: Domestic abuse is a crisis that affects us all\, and it has devastating impacts. In 2022\, TCFV recorded the deaths of 179 women and 37 men killed by an intimate partner or stalking perpetrator across 64 Texas counties. This includes 176 women killed by male partners\, 34 men killed by female\npartners\, and three women and three men killed by same-gender\npartners. Six LGBTQ+ victims and two women killed by a\nstalking perpetrator who sought unwanted relationships with them are among those killed. \nThis must change. \nThere are many myths around domestic abuse and its causes. Help us challenge some of the most widely-believed and deep-rooted misconceptions. \n  \nOther topics this month include: \nOctober 7th- Domestic Violence and Pets A Barrier to Leaving\nOctober 14th- Myths vs. Facts\nOctober 21th- TCFV Report 2023\nOctober 28th- TCFV Report 2023 -Spanish

SUMMARY:CoffeeTalk LIVE on Facebook: Honoring Texas Victims
DESCRIPTION:Join us every Monday Morning LIVE on Facebook in October we discuss a new topic in Honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month! \nJOIN US on Facebook HERE: https://www.facebook.com/mcwctx \nIn this LIVE we will breakdown the 2023 TCFV Honoring Texas Victims Report. We agonize over homicides not included in the report for technical reasons; as a result\, we know the real number is higher. \nTheir lives reflected the richness and diversity of our state\, and their deaths represent an incalculable loss to their families and\ncommunities. In their memory\, we publish a record of the narratives of intimate partner homicide victims and offer this report as an analysis of demographics and risk factors to identify potential systemic gaps for survivor safety and offer holistic approaches to addressing domestic violence in Texas communities. In addition\, this analysis provides a critical lens that examines domestic violence issues in the state\, as well as tools and strategies for predicting lethality and preventing violence. \nOther topics this month include: \nOctober 7th- Domestic Violence and Pets A Barrier to Leaving\nOctober 14th- Myths vs. Facts\nOctober 21th- TCFV Report 2023\nOctober 28th- TCFV Report 2023 -Spanish

SUMMARY:REGISTRATION OPEN: Share-A-Family & Shelter Santa Holiday Program
DESCRIPTION:Every year\, we provide an opportunity to bring joy to a family that’s holiday season looks and sounds a little different. Through our Holiday Program\, our shelter residents and community families who have experienced domestic abuse are able to have some normalcy during the holidays through gifts donated by generous sponsors. \nWhether you are participating with coworkers or with family\, this program is a great opportunity to start a conversation about domestic violence and how it effect’s individuals in our community and gives you an opportunity to show survivors support during an often challenging time of year. \nYou can support the program by sponsoring a family or individual\, hosting a giving tree\, or making a monetary donation. \nFor three wonderful days in December\, over 100 clients and families receive gifts\, homemade cookies and hugs. They are overwhelmed by the generosity of strangers who provide holiday gifts for their families. If not for the compassion of the individuals and the companies who graciously adopt them\, the holidays would be no different than any other day on the calendar. This event is made possible by the many generous donors who sponsor families or make cash donations. \nThank you for making the season magical for all! \nFor more information on this program contact (936) 441-4044 ext. 45 or email volunteer@mcwctx.org. \n  \n \nDOWNLOAD THE FLYER HERE: HOLIDAY WISHLIST

SUMMARY:SATP 40 HOUR TRAINING
DESCRIPTION:The OAG’s Office requires that all staff\, volunteers\, and interns who will be providing direct services to clients complete a 40-hour training program. We are excited to announce that Montgomery County Women’s Center is now offering the opportunity for staff\, interns\, and volunteers from other organizations the opportunity to attend our agency’s training. Please be advised there will be a nominal $100 fee to attend this training. \nThe purpose of the OAG Sexual Assault Advocacy Training Program is to provide comprehensive\, current\, and appropriate advocacy information to staff\, interns\, and volunteers working with victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. The classroom hours will involve various activities\, videos\, community and staff presenters\, and discussions to increase knowledge and enhance skills. Additionally\, there is an 7-hour Self Study packet\, which offers national experts and information not otherwise available. \nTraining is an important tool that facilitates a better understanding of the dynamics of violence and also provides the information and skills needed to help survivors. Many clients arrive in a very fragile state\, so it is imperative to know how to address each of the needs and concerns an individual may face. As an advocate providing services to individuals who are victims of domestic violence and sexual assault\, it is imperative to realize that their needs are many times very unique. MCWC is proud to be offering the opportunity to participate in our Sexual Assault Advocacy Training Program. \nTO REGISTER FOR ONE OF OUR TRAININGS please contact Henley McCann at HenleyM@mcwctx.org or call (936) 441-4044.

SUMMARY:The Woodlands Cares & Coffee For A Cause TOY DRIVE
DESCRIPTION:December 1st gathering The Woodlands Cars & Coffee For A Cause will be holding our annual TOY DRIVE for the children of Montgomery County Women’s Center. \n  \nABOUT THE GROUP: \nThe Woodlands Car Club was founded in March 2001 by a local group of car enthusiasts to create friendships\, fellowship\, foster relationships with local business and community\, create awareness for and give back to local non-profit organizations in Montgomery County. Since 2001\, TWCC has raised and donated over $100\,000 to local charities in our community. The Woodlands Cars & Coffee for a Cause Charity Car Display event was created by one of the original TWCC members\, Dana Pritchard from Woodlands Performance & Suspension in 2009. \nThe Woodlands Car Club enthusiasts gather at Market Street the first Sunday of each month from 6:30-10ish a.m.\, to continue efforts to provide a fun and creative way to give back to our community. TWCC welcomes all types of cars/vehicles from classics\, hot rods\, exotics\, and more. The only type of vehicles that are difficult to accommodate in large numbers\, are the late model lifted trucks\, Jeeps\, SUV’s. This is only because if we have more than 1 or 2 at this event\, we will get many requests for various truck clubs to attend\, and space and safety is a concern at this venue. This event is primarily a car event\, along w/classic/vintage vehicles. We do encourage diversity and feel it is important that we can use our special vehicles at local events for such great causes\, but we do have some restrictions on type & size of vehicles at THIS particular venue. Since space is limited at Market Street\, parking is on a first-come\, first-serve basis\, & we start letting vehicles in at 6:30 a.m.\, at which time a donation of ANY amount will be collected. \nFor first time participants\, you will be asked to fill out a waiver/information form. If you have any questions regarding requirements or otherwise\, please feel free to contact me\, 281.363.2977 or email: wpsinfo@woodlandsperformance.com\, and I’d be happy to discuss this further. The purpose behind this event is for us to provide a morning gathering to show off special vehicles within the car community\, be a supportive partner with Market Street and the local community\, share information about needful non-profit organizations in Montgomery County\, and to give back monetarily as well. TWCC collects coins/change for our donation to the Market Street “Change for Charities” program that will benefit non-profit organizations in Montgomery County. TWCC has collected and donated over $100\,000 to local charities from this program since 2009. \nThank you to ALL who support our mission in “Using Our Cars to Give Back to Our Community. ~Dana P

SUMMARY:Holiday Cookie Donation Drive
DESCRIPTION:For three wonderful days in December\, over 100 clients and families receive gifts\, homemade cookies and hugs. They are overwhelmed by the generosity of strangers who provide holiday gifts for their families. If not for the compassion of the individuals and the companies who graciously adopt them\, the holidays would be no different than any other day on the calendar. This event is made possible by the many generous donors who sponsor families or make cash donations.\nThank you for making the season magical for all!\n\n\nIf you are interested in donating baked goods for this event please contact SiomaraC@mcwctx.org

SUMMARY:New Years Community Clean Out!!
DESCRIPTION:The New Year is a time for reflection\, recommitment and… re-organization! It’s the perfect time to re-gift unneeded holiday presents\, get a fresh start with your wardrobe and donate to your favorite local thrift store – Something Special! \nSomething Special offers new and gently-used clothing\, accessories and housewares to the public. Vouchers are also provided for families in need to shop for free. The best part? Every Something Special purchase benefits families fleeing abuse in our community. \nNeed more motivation to clean out your closet? Check out five reasons why decluttering and donating will get your 2023 off to the right start: \n\n\nLess stuff = more time!\n\n\nSay goodbye to spending hours sifting through your closet. Imagine all your options hung up neatly and clearly visible. By paring down your wardrobe\, you’ll spend less time trying to find outfits and more time wearing the things you love. \n\n\nMake room for the things that matter.\n\n\nClearing out the old means making room for newer and better things to come into your life. Less clothes also means the opportunity to redecorate\, reorganize and make the most of your closet space. \n\n\nDeclutter to de-stress!\n\n\nSimplifying your environment by clearing out unused or unwanted items can improve concentration\, help you sleep and elevate your mood. Letting go is a natural\, healthy process in our growth that makes room for better things. \n\n\nSave money!\n\n\nGoing through your closet allows you to rediscover old pieces and reintroduce them to your wardrobe – you get the rush of a great shopping find without the cost! Plus\, re-familiarizing yourself with your clothes will stop you from spending money on things you already own. \n\n\nSave the planet.\n\n\nDonating your clothes benefits your community AND the environment. Donating and shopping secondhand means that clothes have a longer lifespan and don’t require as many resources as producing new clothes. \nGiving back isn’t just good for your community – it’s good for you too! Give yourself – and your old items – a new start this year. Declutter and donate to Something Special\, or give us a call to get assistance with larger donations (936) 441-4044 x: 53. \nDonations can be dropped at 2 locations: \n\nSomething Special Resale Store: 19073 I-45 South\, Shenandoah (in the Portofino Plaza next to Sam’s Club)\nMontgomery County Women’s Center Administrative Office: 1401 Airport Rd\, Conroe 77301
